Being gay should be something to be proud of. This must not be something that one should be embarrassed. In this modern society being gay, bisexual, lesbian and transgender has already been accepted. However, marriage between homosexuals is still being debated by some countries that are religiously influenced and are conservative.
Recently, LGBT or Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender Pride celebrates Gay month. They are a non-government organization vying for positive stance against discrimination and violence towards these homosexual groups. The group promotes self-affirmation and equality rights, thus building a community of sexual diversity and gender variances.
Celebrating gay pride commemorates the turning point of LGBT history. Pride events include community days, street parties, dance parties and large festivals that can span for several weeks.
Gay symbolism is also proud to brag. Common symbols of the pride group are the rainbow flag, pink and black triangle. The US is the first country where group of homosexuals fought for their right during the 1950’s and 1960’s. Organizations such as the Daughters of Bilitis (Lesbian group) and Mattachine Society (homosexual society) had coordinated to make some of the earliest movements of LGBT rights.
These two groups made a move carrying out pickets to inform American society about the civil rights protection for the gays, lesbians, bisexuals and transsexuals. Frank Kameny, pioneer of gay civil rights had originated a slogan “Gay is Good” in 1968. The slogan insinuates to thereby counter the social stigma and feelings of shame and guilt.
June has been declared as the official Gay, Bisexual, Lesbian and Transexual Pride’s month. Even Google has marked any LGBT-related search results with rainbow colored patterns.
